about

Written by Art "Buddy" Newkirk in the Funhouse, this updated version replaces a bit of the original I was never happy with. The new second verse was written at Ellis Paul's New England Songwriters Retreat, during an amazing workshop led by Molly Venter (of Goodnight Moonshine and Red Molly). You will recognize, perhaps, the names of two Chip Delaney novels, which both Newkirk and I admire. Demo-level recording, as has always been Newkirk's ethos. He used to say that he followed the Ed Wood school of production: "You only do a second take if the camera falls over." Nonetheless, headphones recommended.

lyrics

We were born in zero gravity
In a lake upon the stone
Fifteen hundred million years
To make this world our own
It doesn't really matter much
About the words we say
We come into existence
Just as we pass away
Wasting Time
We're just
Wasting Time

We lived within the system
Til it ground us down to rags
Too many years beneath the gears
To remember we had
Our dreamchild voices haunt us
Whispering our broken vow
To the heartless blue that we fell through
On the way to the here and now
Wasting Time
We're just
Wasting Time

We stalked the resurrection
Through the corridors of fame.
At the Einstein intersection
We were captives of the flame
We were skilled at lying down
With the lion and the lamb
In this dead and dying world
We just don't give a damn
Wasting Time
We're just
Wasting time
Wasting time / all we ever did
Wasting time / all we ever did
Wasting time / all we ever did
Wasting time / all we ever did / the walks on the water when we were kids
Wasting time / all we ever did / the walks on the water when we were kids
Wasting time / all we ever did / the walks on the water when we were kids
Wasting time / all we ever did / the walks on the water when we were kids
